Criteria for Elite Interior Design

If you, dear friends and readers, hope to find here a list of the main “decorative” blunders of garish taste, such as an abundance of cornices and gilding, a clutter of paintings, cherubs on painted ceilings, and gilded toilets, don’t count on it! This article is not about that. The times of raspberry-colored jackets, massive gold chains, and vulgar ostentation have long been forgotten. The same goes for renovations based on the principle of “expensive and lavish.”

It is obvious to everyone that hardly anyone would choose to have an elite interior design in a typical Soviet apartment or a one-room flat near the Moscow Ring Road. Expensive exclusive interiors are the prerogative of wealthy people. It is only natural that the design of an elite interior is associated with spacious apartments or large country houses. Logically, large areas allow for not only the necessary space for comfortable living but also multiple rooms for relaxation and entertainment: swimming pools, saunas, gyms, home theaters, drawing rooms with fireplaces, libraries, and so on. The combination and layout of leisure areas depend on the client’s preferences.

FINISHING

An elite interior is impossible without the use of expensive, premium-class finishing materials. Only natural materials are used for the finishes. If wood is chosen, different textures of elite wood species are used. If stone is selected, it must be natural, with no imitations. Typically, interiors combine metal, various wood and stone textures, glass, crystal, and mirrors.

Sufficient space and a good project budget allow for creativity and experimentation with complex structural solutions. These can include small architectural forms such as columns, pilasters, arches, vaults, rosettes, balusters, and more, as well as intricate shapes for minimalist and high-tech style interiors. Technological elements and features like aquariums, fireplaces, waterfalls, etc., can also be incorporated. All of these contribute to a more complex and original composition.

UNIQUENESS

Nevertheless, regardless of how impressive your project budget may be, moderation should be observed. Yes, the halls of Versailles are luxurious and beautiful, but could you live in a museum or an art monument?

Today, the most important characteristic of elite interior design is not just its costliness, but its uniqueness. It is precisely the distinctive style that sets elite interior designs apart from mass-produced ones that use standard finishing materials and furniture.

LIGHTING IN ELITE INTERIOR DESIGN

Special attention should be given to lighting. In elite interior designs, lighting is multi-layered and diverse. In addition to the main levels of lighting (general lighting, wall sconces, floor lamps, and table lamps), decorative lighting is extensively used. This can include niche lighting, step lighting, lighting for stained glass or stone panels, cascading chandeliers, ceiling vault lighting, floor-recessed lights, and more. Working with lighting should be meticulous and thorough.

FURNITURE AND DECOR

The selection of furniture and decor is worth mentioning. In addition to everything being coordinated into a unified ensemble, exclusive furniture with limited editions or one-of-a-kind pieces is used. Significant attention is devoted to decor. If it’s a painting, it must be an original. If it’s an antique piece, it should be a rarity or an antique. The overall level of the ambiance extends to every element, down to the smallest details.

QUALITY OF FINISHING WORK

Lastly, but certainly not least, the level of execution of finishing and construction work is of great importance. Attention should be given to the professionalism of the specialists performing these tasks. It wouldn’t hurt to have the designer provide author’s supervision during the progress of the work.
