Baroque: Origins of the style, interior features, color palette, furniture
Baroque style, which emerged in the 17th century in Italy during the triumphant march of Western civilization, is still considered one of the most luxurious, elite, and ceremonial interior design styles today. It was recognized and embraced by Europe, and in each country, Baroque style received its own unique interpretation. In Russia, with its grandeur and wealth, the style particularly took hold and was known as Russian Baroque (also known as Naryshkin Baroque during the emergence of this style direction in Russian architecture in the late 17th to early 18th centuries).
INTERIOR IN BAROQUE STYLE
Baroque is a demonstration of grandeur, wealth, and an example of palace art. It emphasizes the spatial magnificence of the homeowner, the scale, and, literally, royal grandeur. It is characterized by ostentatious luxury, theatricality, and aristocracy. It is loved by those who are on the side of power and wealth, as it accentuates the high status of the mansion owner. Dynamism and a certain theatricality are present in this style, thanks to expensive finishing materials, works of art, and valuable furniture.
FEATURES OF THE STYLE
The most distinctive feature of Baroque style is its opulence, ceremonial nature, and uniqueness; it cannot be confused with any other style. It features an abundance of expensive decor, exquisite forms, and exclusive finishes.

The features of Baroque style include:
- Its suitability for spacious rooms.
- The use of expensive finishing materials.
- Abundance of ornate curved lines and extravagance.
- A large number of decorative items.
COLOR SCHEME AND ACCESSORIES
Baroque style in interior design is characterized by an abundance of decorative details, such as fringes and tassels for heavy curtains, ceiling and wall medallions, exquisite plasterwork. Decorative niches are adorned with painted vases and artistically crafted statues, while walls are adorned with tapestries and large mirrors in elegant carved frames. Artistic painting was used for decorating ceilings and walls.
The color palette of Baroque welcomes bright, vivid shades that accentuate the opulence of the decor and convey a sense of success and satisfaction with life. It is characteristic that the primary color of the style is gold. The color selection is limited only by the proper combination of shades and overall coordination. Traditional combinations include white with gold. Baroque in interior design actively utilizes velvety blue, muted green, soft brown, and light pastel tones.

FURNITURE
The same requirements of opulence and monumentality are placed on Baroque furniture. It was in the Baroque interior that furniture sets, known as suites, first appeared. Unbelievably curved lines and luxurious gilded hardware are characteristic of this style of furniture. Each piece of furniture in the apartment design project is considered a work of art. Attention is drawn to comfortable chairs with high curved backs adorned with inlays, carvings, and gilding. Massive sofas with plush decorative cushions promise the owner and guests relaxation and aesthetic pleasure. Tables and chairs with twisted legs take center stage in the dining room. In the bedroom, a large bed with a luxurious canopy is installed on a platform. The furniture is made of precious wood species, and heavy fabrics with patterns of gold threads such as brocade, satin, and velvet are used for upholstery.
The Baroque style is well-suited for the design of restaurants or cafes, depending on the target audience and concept of the establishment.

LIGHTING
Baroque lighting calls for soft, multi-level illumination. Luxurious and massive chandeliers, both crystal and bronze, with a multitude of unique pendants, fit perfectly into the character of the interior, filling the space with shimmer and sparkle. Additional lighting in the form of candle-shaped sconces, candelabras, and girandoles creates an unforgettable romantic ambiance. Crystal wall sconces, table lamps, and torchieres with gilding are also welcomed, complementing the central lighting and primarily located in the seating area.
